BitPay Card overview
The BitPay crypto debit card comes from one of the better-known merchant crypto payment providers. It is available as a virtual or physical Mastercard settling in USD and can be linked to a Coinbase account — handy for Coinbase users, since the Coinbase card only runs on Visa.
Key terms
- Card type: Prepaid Mastercard (virtual and physical)
- Supported currencies: BTC, ETH, BCH, DOGE, LTC, SHIB, DAI, USDC; and other cryptocurrencies; card balance in USD
- Where it works: United States
- Fees: up to 1% conversion (depends on the top-up method); ATM withdrawal fees may apply; network fees may apply
- Cashback: depends on partner offers
Key features
The card follows a prepaid model: you first fund the balance in the BitPay app, then spend it on the Mastercard network. Top-ups come from the BitPay wallet — there is no direct exchange balance link — and the card is US-only, so it mainly appeals to BitPay merchants and their customers.
How to get the card
- Install the BitPay app and create an account.
- Complete identity verification (KYC) with an ID document.
- Issue the card in the app and top up its balance.
